Why is Douglas Street one way by the Town offices?
I understand this was needed when the building was a school, but I don't understand the need for this one block to be one-way. It is just a nuisance having to drive around this block. I have seen this brought up on Next Door multiple times and wonder why nothing has been done about it.
The issue is width… In order to support handicap parking for folks visiting town hall (the parking lot has stairs), we have to allow folks to park on the side of the building. Unfortunately, the road isn’t wide enough to support two-way traffic and a parking lane. The only way we could support is to use the land and alter the sidewalk which is also designed to support handicap accessibility. If we were to alter the current sidewalk (taking away from the land) to allow for two way parking, it would cost upwards of 50k.
